About the Council

Newington Parish Council are here for you and to represent your interests. We are an elected corporate body consisting of 5 Parish Councillors, providing a democratic voice for the interests of the Parish.

The Parish Council duties include:

  • Analysing and commenting on Planning Applications for the Newington Parish.
  • Liaising with the relevant authorities regarding local concerns including building and planning matters close to the Village infrastructure and law and order all with the interests of the Parish in mind.
  • Management of the allotments, burial ground and village notice board.
  • It is true to say that on their own parish councils have very limited powers to make decisions but they do have the ability to negotiate with and influence other organisations that do make the ‘final decisions’ such as other tiers of local government, health authorities and the Police.

Councillors are elected by the residents every four years. We meet regularly in St Giles Church. Everyone is welcome to the meetings – please come along to find out more about what we do and how you can be a part of it.
